What a summer it has been for sailing in Cowes!
The Island Sailing Club barely had time to catch its breath after the incredible success of the Round the Island Race before the flags were raised again and the Club went straight into North Sails Cowes Week. Two of the biggest sailing events in the world, taking place virtually back-to-back in Cowes, created an extraordinary few weeks of racing, competition, hospitality and celebration – and the Island Sailing Club was right at the heart of it all.
There was little opportunity to stop and celebrate the success of the Round the Island Race at the time. The race finished, the boats came ashore, the team packed away and almost immediately attention turned to Cowes Week. The pace was relentless, but the results were exceptional.
Now, as the dust settles, we can finally take a moment to reflect on what was achieved.
The Round the Island Race once again delivered a spectacular showcase of sailing around the Isle of Wight, bringing together a huge fleet of competitors and creating an unforgettable atmosphere both on the water and around Cowes. Behind the scenes, an enormous amount of work went into making the event happen, from race management and safety to volunteers, sponsors, partners, members and the dedicated Island Sailing Club team.
And then, without missing a beat, Cowes Week arrived.
Two internationally recognised sailing events of this scale, one immediately after the other, is an enormous achievement for the club. It is a testament to the commitment, professionalism and passion of everyone involved.
Cowes has once again proved why it is one of the world’s great sailing destinations – and the Island Sailing Club has played its part in making these weeks truly memorable.
So, before we start planning the next chapter, we should take a moment to celebrate.
The Round the Island Race 2027 takes place on Saturday, 10 July 2027.
The countdown has already begun. After an extraordinary 2026 summer, expectations are high – and we cannot wait to do it all again.
